You may be able to see your missing Gmail message as soon as you open the Trash folder. Use Gmail Search to Retrieve Deleted Emails from Gmail. Notice that the words in:trash appear in the search bar.
Note: To determine whether a message is archived or not, there should be no label attached to it. Click the Trash option to open the folder: Your Trash folder opens. In addition, it does not matter if the messages are archived or not as well. Click the 'more' option and then click 'all mail' in the drop down menu.
